Touchpad (DualShock 4 / DualSense)

The touchpad of PlayStation controllers can work like a Mac trackpad, or run actions for taps, swipes and clicks.

Touchpad modes

ModeMoving your fingers…
Gestures Only (default)does nothing by itself. Taps, swipes and clicks run their triggers.
TrackpadOne finger moves the mouse pointer: slow movements are precise, fast ones travel far. Two fingers scroll, with momentum, like on a Mac trackpad.
ScrollAny finger scrolls.
Smooth ZoomMoving a finger up zooms in. Pinching with two fingers zooms too.

Change the mode with the Touchpad menu below the controller in the Live view, in the profile settings, or in the Movement section of any touchpad trigger. Touchpad Speed in the profile settings scales pointer movement, scrolling and zoom.

Touchpad gestures

Touchpad gestures are Gamepad Button triggers. In the Live view, the Gestures menu below the touchpad lists all of them. Pick one to configure it.

GestureNotes
Touchpad Tap / Touchpad Two-Finger TapA short touch without moving and without pressing the pad. Works in every mode. Double press actions give you a double tap.
Touchpad Swipe / Two-Finger Swipe (up, down, left, right)Only in Gestures Only mode. In the other modes moving your fingers moves the pointer, scrolls or zooms.
Touchpad ClickPressing the touchpad down.
Touchpad Click (Left Half) / (Right Half)Pressing the left or right half of the touchpad. A half with its own trigger replaces the plain Touchpad Click on that half; the other half keeps it.

Use the touchpad like a Mac trackpad

  1. Set the touchpad to Trackpad.
  2. Assign Left Click to Touchpad Tap and Right Click to Touchpad Two-Finger Tap.
  3. Optionally assign Left Click to Touchpad Click as well. Then you can press the pad down and move your finger to drag things.

Tips

  • In the Live view, your fingers show up as dots on the touchpad, and the names of recognized gestures briefly appear on it. Performing a gesture selects its trigger, if it already has one.
  • Hold layers can switch the touchpad mode too, e.g. the touchpad zooms while L1 is held.
  • The action Gamepad: Set Stick Mode can switch the touchpad mode on the fly.
