Subagents

Subagents are specialized assistants that a main assistant can call for focused work.

Use them when a task benefits from a separate role, for example:

  • code review
  • UI testing
  • workflow building
  • research
  • plugin repair

How They Differ From Skills

Skills define what the main assistant can do. Subagents are helper assistants with their own instructions, tool access, iteration limits, and optional model settings.

Some built-in skills already include useful subagents. You can also configure custom subagents and allow them from the main assistant configuration.

Good Practice

  • Keep each subagent narrow.
  • Give it only the tools it needs.
  • Use a different model only when that role needs it.
  • Let the main assistant summarize the result for you.

Subagent activity is shown in the parent conversation so you can see what was delegated.
