Extended Thinking

Some models support extra reasoning or thinking controls. BTT can enable these globally on an assistant or through a skill.

Use extended thinking for:

  • BTT configuration changes with many details
  • computer-use tasks that need planning and verification
  • plugin creation
  • code changes
  • longer research or analysis

Leave it off for quick rewriting, short answers, and simple one-step automations.

Levels​

BTT offers levels from Minimal to Maximum, plus Adaptive where supported. Higher levels can improve difficult tasks, but they also increase latency and provider cost.

When multiple active skills request thinking, BTT uses the strongest requested setting.

Provider Support​

Provider support varies. Some cloud models expose explicit thinking budgets, some expose reasoning effort, and some local models ignore these settings. If a model does not support extended thinking, BTT continues with the normal request.
